In 1998, my classmates unanimously named our class The Clairvoyants. It felt special, like naming a startup. We believed as computer science students, we would shape the future with programming, and even back then, there were inklings of Artificial Intelligence running the world someday.
My Father, the Astrologer and Foreteller
My father, a retired teacher and renowned astrologer, learned astrology from his guru, Iyer Swami. Despite our struggles, my parents ensured we had the best education. I vividly remember my father’s guru performing a Homa at our home to help us overcome poverty—it worked.
Growing up, my father would often predict what I’d study, where I’d work, and the direction my life would take. I followed his guidance most of the time. He had a unique perspective, especially regarding love marriages: “When the hearts have united, why should the charts differ?” It was an early lesson in the balance of fate and free will. Over time, I’ve come to appreciate astrology’s deeper value—it can reveal not only challenges but also ways to prepare through spiritual practices or rituals.
My College Mentor and the Power of Intuition
I owe a lot to my Head of Department, Sivanandam Sir (a name befitting a guide!). A specialist in Neural Networks and Fuzzy Logic, he often shared real-life stories of intuitive insights. His teachings and mentorship deeply inspired me. I fondly remember the tea breaks we shared and his blessings during my visits en route to Sabarimala.
Which professor do you recall fondly? They often shape more than just our academic path—they help shape who we are.
Palm Reading and Hostel Nostalgia
In our college hostel, Navdeep Singh, a skilled palm reader, was a source of fascination. Friends were eager to know if they’d go abroad or how many children they’d have based on the lines on their palms. Teasing and laughter ensued—it was a time of carefree curiosity, where our biggest concern was securing a placement.
Fast forward to 2024, life has changed. Back then, relationships, emotional well-being, and the human element of life weren’t part of our curriculum. Yet, every classmate now carries a unique story—stories that are woven into the beautiful tapestry of life.
Life Lessons
Life, as my Gurudeva would say, is beautiful. Let’s live joyfully and embrace the journey, cherishing the lessons from our past, the mentors who shaped us, and the friends who walked with us.
What memories do you hold dear from your college days? Let’s celebrate them and the lessons they continue to teach us!
